History
Shiptonthorpe Village Hall has a rich history that dates back to 1872, when it was originally built to serve as the village school. For many years, it provided education to generations of children in the village.
In 1980, the building ceased being used as a school and the remaining students were transferred to Market Weighton.
It was saved from redevelopment by becoming a village hall after an unsettled period when demolition looked imminent. Over the years, the hall has undergone several refurbishments, including a major renovation in 2009. More recently, new facilities such as a toilet block with disabled access and a patio for outdoor events have been added.
Present Day
Shiptonthorpe Village Hall is now entering another exciting period in its history. Planning permission has been granted to expand the present hall with the addition of a new entrance, a meeting room and purpose built bar.
The hall continues to be a vital part of the community, relying on donations and event income to maintain its operation
The hall is managed by a committee led by Richard Waud. To hire the hall please contact Richard Waud on: 07922 443639.
